DJ ALIX-HOUSE SANCTUARYAlix Achille was raised up in Canada by his loving aunt and uncle. His courageous mother at the time went to NYC to find better work in her field and to establish a home. Music was always a great influence and part of home life with Alix. The area Alix grew up in Canada was called Laval. Laval is a French speaking suburb of Montreal. Late at night while everyone slept, Alix would listen to Montreal’s diversified radio stations at low volume. Alix’s aunt & uncle could never understand why he was so tired in the mornings until now. Guess the secrets out… While the kids in the neighborhood liked Rock bands bands, such as Def Leopard, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osborne, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and Kiss. Alix liked all those bands but really identified with different forms of music like Earth Wind and Fire, Lime, Chaka Chan, The Jackson’s, George Benson, Donna Summers, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, Pat Benetar, and David Bowie. During that time, Disco and American pop were taking over the Montreal night scene. Alix who at this point was not even old enough to go to school on his own, already knew he wanted to go out clubbing. Seeing movies on TV like Saturday Night Fever, Odyssey 2000, Roller Boogie, and Staying Alive, all appealed to Alix. These movies gave young Alix insight on what goes on in a club setting. He saw people connecting with the music, just like he did while listening to the radio stations late night. At age 8, Alix just knew that he had to be a part of the club scene. In the mid 80s NYC was going through a music transformation. Disco was dying out. Rap, R & B, and hip hop were taking over. Alix liked those forms of music as well, however, he really connected with this new form of music called House. House Music was being played only at NYC underground clubs, like Paradise Garage, the Loft, Arial, Palladium, M K’s and Roxy’s (where he danced roller skated on Sundays). Besides his passion for music, Alix had another passion, basketball which he played at the University of Binghamton. This is where Alix got his first taste in the DJ arena due to his college roommates Ralph, Rodney, and John. They were all DJ’s and when they where not home, Alix would experiment with their equipment. What really got Alix hooked on House was his first trip to The Palladium, where the huge speakers belted out the sweet earth quaking sound of House, which enveloped the entire club. Also present was an assortment of flashing lights, strobe and the dancers on top of the speakers that kept the energy level on the dance floor at its peak. That first experience was euphoric to Alix. From that moment on you couldn’t keep him out of the NYC club scene. In 1998, while clubbing at the legendary Sound Factory he befriended two established professional DJ’s, Danny “Buddha” Morales and Cleveland Skyers. This union was a changing point in Alix’s D J’ing career. He got an inside view of the Club music scene & what needs to happen to have a successful enjoyable night for all. In November of 2000, Alix was blessed with a wonderful daughter. Once she was born, Alix had no desire to go out clubbing; he wanted to be home with his child to raise her. Still longing for the night life Alix started DJ’ing at home, while his daughter slept. Pretty soon other parents who had kids of there own but could not go out started coming over to hear Alix spin. His home soon became known as “Club Romper Room” Since then behind the scenes, Alix has been one of House music’s most dedicated ambassadors, spreading his deep House sounds any way he can. As a Dj you have this symbiotic connection with the people you play for. Watching them expose their emotions, release, and express themselves through dance while enjoying your music is truly one of life’s special happenings. House music has the ability to unify people of all backgrounds. Unification and acceptance of one another is of the up most importance for we are all one with each other and the cosmos. DJ Kito, as he is known in radio, was born in Ecuador on August 19th but he grew up in New York. Even though he has lived in Queens since he was a child, this Ecuatorian never forgets his native country and he visits every time he gets a chance to travel.
Since very young DJ Kito has shown an interest towards music, but it was at the age of 17 that his true passion for music began. He experimented mixing rhythms in his bedroom and shortly thereafter he was spinning at local parties. He always practiced mixing music for hours and that’s how he mastered that art. All the effort was worthwhile because DJ Kito has played in the best Clubs in New York including Latin Quarter, Copacabana, Exit, Vue, Club New York, Float, Drama, Cocobongos and many more.
DJ Kito was first heard in the radio in the year 2000 when he was a guest DJ for “The Weekend Mix” show in Latino Mix 105.9FM. In 2001 he became a frequent guest DJ in a show called “Traffic Jam” that aired Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. in the same station. In the year 2002 DJ Kito stopped being a guest DJ when he took over the “Traffic Jam” show permanently. He also started a show of mixes that lasted four hours every Saturday at 12 midnight in Latino Mix 105.9FM. Later in 2002 DJ Kito started the “Weekend Party Mix” show every Friday and Saturday in the same radio station. In mid 2005 DJ Kito did the crossover to the urban format by mixing reggaeton for La Kalle 105.9FM.
DJ Kito has quickly made a name in the Latin market thanks to his versatility in mixing dance music, tropical, pop and reggaeton. He was also featured as a guest dj , in the “Bailando por un Sueño” segments in channel 41 Univision in New York.
On his spare time this bachelor enjoys watching movies and…mixing music. He currently has a mixed show on Sirius Satellite Radio every saturdays from 9pm 11pm Est time called La Gozadera on Rumbon Ch 83.
